I’d heard about it from multiple sources, but didn’t really understand what was involved. Even when Facebook acquaintances posted their latest stats, the mystery did not unravel. Finally I decided to join a CrossFit class to see what all the fuss was about, and to be able to similarly mystify and/or impress others with my own stats if I chose to post these on social media.
CrossFit is a program developed to offer a full body workout, combining elements of cardio, weight lifting, gymnastics, core training and many other disciplines. Mettle Nation, in Darlinghurst, specifically run classes for mothers and their babies three times a week. Exercises have been tailored for post-natal women to improve endurance and stamina. While the mum’s exercise, the babies have toys to keep them entertained and are supervised at all times. Sometimes, things get interactive and our babies join in, as weights!
I started my class with a group of woman and their 3 month olds. 30 weeks on and we all have our pre-pregnancy bodies back. The babies treat the gym like a second home. We’ll often find them congregating by the Entertainment center, chatting amongst themselves and no doubt laughing at their mum’s for being so body-conscious…
