Although I’m aware of my limitations as a vocalist, I have never been afraid to bash out a tune. What’s great about Baby Rhyme Time, is that I can sing as loud and flat as I like and the babies don’t judge me, in fact, they actually appreciate my enthusiasm.
We arrive 20 minutes early at Double Bay library, an elegant 19th century sandstone building. Since buying a new car, I arrive everywhere 20 minutes early, factoring in the time it takes me to park. On this occasion I’m in luck. This gives Jack and I, a brief moment or two prior to the class, to enjoy Blackburn Gardens and the stunning view as we look back towards the City.
The two librarians, Ryan and Chris greet us warmly. Most libraries run a Baby Rhyme Time session and I’ve attended a few, but Chris and Ryan are without doubt the best Baby Rhymers out there. With their passion and dizzying combination of songs, books, rhymes and musical instruments, this pair of Pied Pipers, captivate babies and parents alike.
Jack is enthralled and stares at them mesmerized, like I would at Beyonce. They actively encourage participation from the audience and Ryan is beckoning us to join in for “If you’re happy and you know it” and before I can help myself, I’m belting out “If you really want to show it” and doing all the hand gestures….
